Milwaukee tapped for filming of "No God, No Master"

Strata Productions, Inc., Sacco & Vanzetti, LLC and NGNM, Inc., are in Milwaukee scouting locations in the Third Ward and other spots and rounding up extras for its feature film, "No God, No Master," starring Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominee David Strathairn.

Strathairn has appeared in many films, including "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "The Firm," as well as on television in shows like "The Sopranos" and "Monk." He won the Oscar and Globe nods for his role as Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night, and Good Luck."

According to a statement, the film's writer and director, Chicago's Terry Green has wanted to make the film in Milwaukee since the project's birth.

"The city's rich history, vintage architecture and Lake Michigan's horizon are the perfect backdrop for the 1919 period locations which simulate old world New York City."

There will be a casting call for extras, bit parts and speaking roles on Saturday, July 11 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Radisson Milwaukee North Shore, 7065 N. Port Washington Rd.

Here's the "official" description of the film, which begins shooting beginning July 20:

"'No God, No Master' is the story of U.S. Bureau of Investigation agent William Flynn who is swept into the world of homegrown terrorism during the Red Scare of the early 1900s. His journey into the culture of anarchism sets the stage for a timely drama with resounding parallels to the politics and issues of contemporary society. This action-driven feature film is the story of one man's odyssey into a universe of power, greed and corruption, forcing him to confront the very principles and values that make him an American."

The filmmakers hope to use "a crew consisting primarily of Wisconsin residents."
